Railway Engineering

Clifton has been providing engineering services to the railway industry in Canada and the western United States for more than 35 years. We work throughout the US and Canada providing emergency geotechnical assessments, remedial designs, planning, siding and yard design, crossing safety assessments, construction supervision, track inspections, ballast testing and ballast quarry development.

Clifton is a member of the Western Canadian Short Line Railway Association, which represents 17 short line railways in western Canada and also AREMA.

We understand that the main priority for rail is to safely maintain track speed. This means that for all work involving rail, Clifton will reduce the number of slow orders to return the track to maximum timetable speeds.

We understand that railways are directly connected to the earth and that connection is where our skills overlap. One of the most significant value to clients as designers comes forward when we fully integrate our client’s needs with our geotechnical and construction expertise and combine that with an effective geometric design.
