Environmental MANAGEMENT

The Environmental Engineering practice group guides environmental projects through every phase from planning and investigation to decommissioning and reclaiming a property.

Environmental Site Assessments

Environmental site assessments help to determine whether land has existing or potential environmental impacts, critical to know before purchasing land or developing on a property. We have conducted environmental site assessments for First Nations communities, financial institutions, real estate companies, industries, law firms, public institutions, and government agencies.

Risk Management and Remediation of Contaminated Sites

Land that has been used for commercial or industrial development sometimes contains soil and groundwater impacts related to chemical storage and releases. Our environmental specialists have a wealth of experience investigating contaminated sites developing conceptual site models, completing human health and ecological risk assessments, completing remedial options analyses, and implementing remedial and risk control measures for soil, soil vapour and groundwater contamination.

Radon Measurement and Mitigation

Clifton offers a full range of radon-related engineering services designed to meet pertinent regulatory requirements. Services range from building-specific radon mitigation design development to system installation services to post-construction radon measurement. All services are provided by Canadian National Radon Proficiency Program (C-NRPP) certified personnel.

Remediation Strategies

Our engineers and scientists provide remedial system design and construction. We find the right solution for the environment using predictive contaminant transport modelling, which demonstrates how contaminants will travel. Solutions may consist of bioremediation which enhances the growth of existing microbes or introduces specialized microbes to the site, or phytoremediation which utilizes plants that can contain, degrade, or eliminate contaminants in the environment.

Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) Services for Fugitive Emissions

Leak Detection and Repair programs promote the efficiency of oil and gas plant operations by eliminating or reducing the release of methane and specialized Volatile Organic Compounds.

Clifton provides fugitive emissions monitoring services for upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas operations. As regulatory and subject matter experts, Clifton provides a full range of fugitive emissions management services.

Clifton uses the industry-leading optical gas imaging (OGI) technology. Our qualified technicians use FLIR equipment which allows operators to quickly scan thousands of components and detect potential methane and specified volatile organic compound releases.

Environmental Impact Assessments

Clients benefit from our comprehensive knowledge of western Canadian environmental regulations and permitting processes. We regularly assist our clients with the federal and provincial environmental assessment approval processes. We guide our clients’ applications, resulting in a short and streamlined review process. We maintain an understanding of the evolving environmental acts, regulations, and policies that apply to projects. Clifton has established relationships with regulatory agencies at all levels of government, allowing projects to move through the regulatory procedure efficiently.
