Intermediate Civil Design Technologist/Engineer

Clifton is currently searching for an Intermediate Civil Design Technologist/Engineer to join our Calgary office. Our civil team provides support to our infrastructure, environmental and geotechnical groups in different capacities i.e. preparing report figures, designing and modeling municipal linear infrastructure. 

Responsibilities

  • Create and edit engineering design drawings, plans and details (including excavation, grading, utilities, roadwork, report figures, etc.) 
  • Interpret design sketches and details 
  • Create of 3D rendering and schematic drawings 
  • Stormwater modelling, potable water modelling, corridor modelling, roads and rail 
  • Provide support and coordinate work with other departments and disciplines, as required
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, specification and calculations 
  • Follow design standards and guidelines 
  • Organize electronic and hardcopy drawings and related data files with designers and project managers 
  • Maintain accurate project time information and project tracking statistics 
  • Provide drafting support corporately, as needed.
  • Topographic survey data processing (manipulating and managing electronic data from others for the purpose of design and drafting)
  • Quantities takeoff for linear infrastructure including roadways, railways yards and subdivisions 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or Diploma from an applied science, engineering or information technology program 
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), Professional Technologist (P.Tech), Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) 
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of relevant drafting/design experience 
  • Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D within the past 3 years (including ability to create alignments, profiles, pipe networks, TIN surfaces, grading objects and corridors, calculate earthwork volume quantities and tender quantities, rendering 3D models, etc. 
  • Proficient with other civil design software applications (including PCSWMM, XPSWMM, WATERCAD), considered an asset 
  • Proficient in computer software and strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite  
  • Self-motivated team player displaying high initiative and dynamic ability to meet client demands and needs 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Self-starter with the ability to multitask and manage time effectively 
  • Be willing to work overtime hours upon request

Junior/Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer

Clifton is currently searching for Junior to Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer for our Calgary office.  This position report to the Earth Sciences team lead and will work closely within Clifton’s other Practice Teams. 

Responsibilities

  • Planning, conducting, and supervising geotechnical investigations and construction monitoring; 
  • Observing and monitoring the execution of subsurface investigations and testing programs appropriate for design and construction of infrastructure projects including bridges, pavements, rail yards, and other geo-structures;
  • Conducting technical analyses/calculations for slopes, shallow and deep foundations;
  • Preparing borehole logs, field reports, and assisting with the preparation of reports and recommendations, plans and specifications.
  • Preparing proposals, budgeting and scheduling of technical field staff; 
  • Project Management including accountability for project financial results; 
  • Assisting the submittal of on-time, accurate invoices, collections and updating backlog reports; 
  • Communicating with clients and sub-consultants and internal stakeholders;

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Minimum of an Undergraduate degree in Geological or Civil Engineering with a preference for candidates who have obtained a Graduate Degree in Geotechnical Engineering;
  • A minimum of 3 to 8 years’ experience in a geotechnical engineering capacity with strong geotechnical modelling skills using Plaxis, Flac, LPILE, GeoStudio package (Slope, Seep, Sigma), WEAP, LogPlot, and Gint;
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA);
  • Experience in a consulting engineering environment would be considered an asset;
  • Experience establishing and maintaining client relationships; and
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) and an ability to work in a team environment.

Senior Contaminated Sites Engineer/Geoscientist

Clifton is currently searching for a Senior Contaminated Sites Engineer/Geoscientist to join our Regina office. The work will include oversight of assessment, permitting, remediation and risk management projects, and support to other practice groups.  In addition to managing and mentoring staff within the Regina office, work will include collaboration with other offices to provide technical guidance and strategic planning.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree, specializing in Environmental (Civil) Engineering, Hydrogeology, Environmental Geoscience or a related discipline
  • Fifteen years of progressive industry experience
  • Registration (or eligibility) as a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
